The persistence of poverty is one of the most important and urgent questions facing South Africa
It influences and forms children from a very early age, and when they grow older it may manifest in violent behavior.
Coming to grips with these dynamics...
requires going beyond the limitations of conventional "sustainable livelihoods", and understanding the core, so we can empower where it is most effective - THE NEXT GENERATION.
True change can only happen from within. Therefore we always take hands with other NPO’s or key role players within communities, because :
- When a community serves itself it empowers, motivates and strengthens a community.
- We at Y 4 L understand that many of our vulnerable communities are like family and through serving each other, communities heal from within.
We focus on youth development. We offer weekly classes, youth leadership training, agriculture programs and have a holistic approach while reaching many different sectors. We also use our “Beat the Bully” program to address serious issues like GBV (Gender Based Violence), Bully Behavior in schools and in the working environment, through training and program implementation.
- We at Y 4 L believe in “doing with VS doing for”. Relationships in a community is key. Direct charity increases disability, when we do for those in need what they have the capacity to do for themselves, we disempower them.
- We bring solutions to basic needs –
- Family (love)
- Lighthouse ladies + groups (belong)
- Feeding (worth)
- We empower with purpose training and support.
- Our program is sustainable because we only develop what can be sustained.
- Connection in community brings change.
Bridge Builders = Sustainability
- We facilitate the process of change towards stability and restoration.

As we launch our first outreach program for 2026, I couldn't be more proud of our kids. Thank you Liezel Mc Lennan for creating opportunities for them to serve, care and love the elderly. We find our true purpose and value in life when we understand how much we can contribute to someone else's life. Liezel Mc Lennan
In February, our groups are open to new members, and we repeat our foundational teachings, including the wordless book, to ensure everyone understands Jesus' sacrifice for us and the requirements for growth in salvation. It is beautiful to see all our children back and also new children joining our groups.
Kids are developing their skills to give our senior ladies the most memorable makeovers. These young individuals showcase remarkable talent. Each child adopted an elderly lady during their outreach initiative, attending to their needs and ensuring they felt cherished and special.
